Somna User Guide — I’m Asleep

Set it up during the day, then let it run from an Alexa Routine. I’m Asleep is for the moment before you are fully awake or moving.

Choose a wake style, choose a wake runway, choose an audience, then schedule it in the Alexa app.

Start here

  1. Choose your Wake Style: Gentle Wake, Steady Wake, Start Moving, or Quiet Wake.
  2. Choose your Wake Runway: Short, Standard, or Long.
  3. Choose your Audience: Adult, Teen, or Youth.
  4. Schedule I’m Asleep in the Alexa app.

If you are not sure where to start, begin with Gentle Wake, standard runway, and adult.

Wake style presets

Wake style controls the feel of the morning. Choose it during the day, before scheduling.

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to browse presets Alexa, ask I’m Asleep for the next preset Alexa, ask I’m Asleep for the previous preset Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to use this preset Alexa, ask I’m Asleep what preset am I using

Start it on a schedule

You can have “I’m Asleep” begin automatically at a set time using an Alexa Routine.

Set it once in the Alexa app:

  1. Open the Alexa app and select More (top left).
  2. Then select Routines and go to Your Routines.
  3. Add (+) a New Routine and name it.
  4. Select the profile to be used and Save it.
  5. Add (+) an Event and Schedule the Time to be played.
  6. Add (+) a Custom Action and enter "Start I’m Asleep".
  7. Select which device it is to be played on.
  8. Finally, select Finished.

Once set, the routine starts the saved wake ladder automatically. The Alexa app controls when it starts. I’m Asleep controls how it feels.

You can still change how it runs using voice:

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to set to adult Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to set to teen Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to set to youth Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to set transition short Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to set transition standard Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to set transition long

The schedule controls when it starts. Your saved settings control how it runs.

The wake ladder

The full wake experience is built around four stages:

The full wake ladder moves gradually from soft waking toward getting up, using your saved wake style, runway, and audience.

Alexa, I’m Asleep

Audience

Audience changes the tone of the wake ladder. Choose it during the day so the morning experience stays simple.

To save an audience without starting playback, say:

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to set to adult

To switch audience and begin immediately, say:

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to use teen

Wake runway

Wake runway controls how much time Somna has to move from soft waking toward getting up.

To save a timing profile, say:

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to set transition standard

To hear your current timing profile, say:

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep what is my transition

To hear the full timing breakdown, say:

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to describe my wake timing

Audience changes the tone of the wake ladder. Choose it during the day so the morning experience stays simple.

Check your settings

To hear your current wake style, runway, and audience, say:

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep what are my settings Alexa, ask I’m Asleep what am I using

To replay the beginning of the wake ladder, say:

Alexa, ask I’m Asleep to play again

What this skill is for

“I’m Asleep” is not for when you are already up and functioning. It is for the moment before that — when you are still in bed, still heavy, and not yet moving.

The tone should stay calm, low-pressure, non-parental, and gently embodied from start to finish.

I’m Asleep remembers your wake style, wake runway, and audience. Use an Alexa Routine to choose when it starts, and use voice settings to choose how it runs.
